The Characteristics of Porn and Social Phobias
Characteristics of Panic Disorder in Comparison with
Generalized Anxiety Disorder as it relates to fantasy and Porn issues.
Traditionally, phobias have been named by means
of Greek prefixes that stand for the object of the fear, as
shown in the following examples:
SOCIAL Phobias
Recently, however, such names have been avoided. People's
knowledge of Greek is not what it once was, and
in any case, a staggering number of labels would be
needed to take account of the great variety of phobias
that have been observed.
Therefore, phobias are
grouped into three: Simple phobias,
Social phobias, (and) Agoraphobia
• Acrophobia: fear of heights
• Agoraphobia: fear of open places and unfamiliar settings
• Aqua-phobia: fear of water
• Claustrophobia: fear of closed places
• Xenophobia: fear of strangers
NOTE: Social phobias are characterized by fear and embarrassment.
Often the individual's greatest fear is that others will seem them as not enough.
Simple Phobias
Simple phobias, which are relatively rare, are a miscellaneous
category comprising irrational fears that do not fall within
the other two categories. Examples of simple
phobias are intense fears particularly: types of animals
(for example, snakes, dogs, or rats).
Although it is not unusual for people with simple phobias
to overcome their fear as a result of a positive experience
involving contact with the fear-arousing stimulus,
simple phobias tend to be chronic. A variety of
therapeutic approaches have been used in treating simple
phobias. Procedures that promote association between
the fear-arousing stimulus and non anxiety responses,
and at the same time provide information that
disconfirms mistaken beliefs about the stimulus
(for example, the at all dogs are ferocious), often have positive
effects. I sometimes don't get to class because I think the
professor might call on me. My f ear doesn't have
anything to do with being unprepared if he asks me a
question, because I'm almost always well prepared.
My grades on exams are always near the top of the
class. What I keep thinking about is that the professor
and all the students will see how red my face gets
whenever I have to say something in a group .
blushing, tremors of the hand, and a quavering voice
will be detected by people with whom he or she comes
into contact. Fear of public speaking I and of eating in
public are frequent complaints of socially phobic individuals.
These problems often begin in late childhood or early adolescence.
Most phobias about interpersonal relationships involve
one or more of the following fears: fear of asserting
oneself, fear of criticism, fear of making a mistake,
and fear of public speaking. People who are afflicted in
these ways have much in common. They go through life
feeling generally inadequate and have many social and
interpersonal difficulties. They attempt to compensate
by immersing themselves in school and then in their
work, never being really sure of their skills and talents.
They dismiss their successes, if any, by saying. "My
work isn't really good enough" or "I was just lucky being
in the right place at the right time ." They may
feel like impostors, fearing that they will be discovered
and that the rug will be pulled out from under them.
The incidence of social phobias in two urban populations
over a 6-month period ranged from 0.9 to 1.7
percent for men and 1.5 to 2.6 percent for women.
These figures are derived from self-reports and screening
questionnaires in community surveys. The figures for socially
phobic people who actually seek clinical help
would be lower. Significant depressive symptoms are
common in clinical cases of social phobia (Aimes, 2011).
Some hints concerning behavior in interpersonal situations
that have been found to be helpful to social phonics (Marks).
People who suffer from social anxiety may also experience sex addiction in forms that distance them from reality. Porn addiction can be very common for men with social anxiety because of the fantasy nature of porn along with the absence of real human contact.
